Spring Planting and Lifetime Achievement Award for Julian
The seed potatoes planting season is going well
With Spring almost complete, we are almost finished our spring planting. We have a small window of about 6 weeks to get a large number of seed potatoes in the ground. It was great to get the four row planter out again as it proved itself last year with good yields resulting from the reduced compaction of the soil.
Back at the factory and coolstore, the team headed up by Les & Adrian are co-ordinating orders, cutting and managing the new coolstore expansion with construction beginning before Christmas.
Julian awarded Lifetime Achievement award
In early November, the TAPG (Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group) presented Julian with an Award for Agricultural Excellence – Lifetime Achievement.
This award was to recognise Julian’s achievements over in Agriculture over the last 40 years. Julian began his working life at Glaxo Smith Kline in the development of effective weed control in the poppy industry. By his early 30’s he made the decision to go out on his own and begin a consultancy business providing advice to growers. Since the 1990’s he has built Agronico into one of Australia’s largest seed potato producers by focusing on the science of seed potato production investing in tissue culture and hydroponics. And it’s his R&D focus that has been rewarded. Thank you to the TAPG for this award.
